SciAps Advances Precision Spectral Analysis with FieldSpec, TerraSpec, and LabSpec

ANDOVER, Mass.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–SciAps Inc., a leader in handheld and portable analytical instruments, announces the continued evolution of the FieldSpec, TerraSpec, and LabSpec product lines—flagship spectral analysis tools originally developed by Analytical Spectral Devices (ASD). These instruments remain essential for geologists, researchers, and remote sensing professionals who need reliable field and lab data.

The integration of these products into the SciAps portfolio ushers in a new era for the ASD legacy. “ASD built the gold standard for in-the-field VisNir analysis with both the portable (backpack) systems and the handheld Halo,” said Don Sackett, CEO of SciAps Inc. “SciAps has launched a completely new handheld VisNir to replace the legacy Halo product, and now we’re also marketing, manufacturing and supporting the backpack systems FieldSpec, LabSpec and TerraSpec. Manufacturing and development has been relocated to SciAps headquarters in Andover, MA, and global support and service will be available from a dedicated team. It’s an exciting moment for the industry, and for us.”

The FieldSpec system remains a leader in outdoor spectral analysis, offering twice the signal-to-noise ratio of competing models. Its design—including a permanently installed fiber optic cable and post-dispersive optics—makes it ideal for satellite validation, environmental mapping, and ground-truthing.

TerraSpec is engineered for rugged field conditions, with a user-replaceable SMA 905 fiber optic cable and durability suited for geological tasks like core logging and sampling. “TerraSpec is built for the realities of fieldwork—durable, dependable, and precise,” said Rick Koenig, Director of Product Development at SciAps.

LabSpec delivers flexible, lab-ready performance at a competitive price point, with configurations tailored for academic and industrial use. “LabSpec supports a wide variety of sample types with consistent, repeatable data,” Koenig added.

Together, these instruments support the full mineral exploration lifecycle—from airborne surveys to lab validation. Their post-dispersive optical design enhances compatibility with satellite data, supporting accurate radiometric calibration. Learn more by visiting the SciAps website.
