Spiritus Expands Leadership Team with Former Tesla, Meta and Exxon Executive to Lead Carbon Removal Infrastructure

Mindy Ren to oversee the construction of Carbon Orchard direct air capture facilities

LOS ALAMOS, N.M.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Spiritus, the climate tech company designing solutions for scalable direct-air-capture (DAC) of carbon removal, announced today that it has hired Mindy Ren as the company’s Head of Carbon Removal Infrastructure. Ren has an extensive background in infrastructure management, having previously held positions leading onshore and offshore construction worldwide for ExxonMobil, managing Engineering, Procurement and Construction for Tesla’s battery facilities in California, and overseeing the execution strategy and planning efforts for hyper-scale data center projects at Meta. This announcement strengthens the Spiritus team following the company’s public unveiling in September.

Spiritus is creating a technology for carbon dioxide removal (CDR) in the global fight against climate change. Using a lung-like solid sorbent material the company refers to as “fruit,” Spiritus’ Carbon Orchard approach to DAC passively adsorbs CO₂ from the air before conveying it to a centralized, fully-contained desorption system. Using passive air contact for collection, rather than industry-standard fans, greatly reduces energy consumption needs for DAC, setting the stage for affordable, global adoption. Once desorbed, the fruit returns to the contactors (or “trees”) to once again collect CO₂ and begin the process again. A Spiritus Carbon Orchard contains all of these elements – fruit, trees, and desorption system – in a single site, eliminating the need to transport and store the CO₂ elsewhere.

“Mindy has a breadth of experience in construction and project management across complex capital-intensive projects, making her a perfect fit to help us deploy Carbon Orchards for direct-air capture of carbon dioxide,” said Charles Cadieu, co-founder and CEO, Spiritus. “As a first-of-its-kind form of DAC, the construction of our Orchards requires a forward-thinking leader capable of inventive solutions for the practical deployment of new technologies. We’re excited to have Mindy on our team.”
