Top Mobility News; Next generation of solar panels installed at Bentley UK HQ
London, 22 June, 2023, (Oilandgaspress) : Installation started today at the Bentley Motors carbon neutral ‘dream factory’ in Crewe to increase the number of on-site solar panels to 36,418. The announcement coincides with the 10th anniversary of the first solar panels at the Pyms Lane site, where all Bentley models are built. The solar panels cover an area of 60,911 m2 – the equal to nine football pitches or 311 tennis courts. The additional state-of-the-art panels are highly efficient and produce nearly 60 per cent more power per panel as the original units, which date back to 2013.
They will add another two megawatts to energy generation on the Bentley site, bringing a total of 10 MW of generation capacity. It is estimated that the combined systems with 36,418 solar panels will produce up to 75 per cent of Bentley’s daytime electricity demands on average, based on May 2023, and can peak at 100 per cent. This is equivalent to the energy needed to power more than 2,370 homes per year. The new panels are due to be operational by November, reducing the equivalent CO2 emissions by 407,477 tonnes per year. The installation on ten existing roof structures at the plant is just the latest phase in Bentley’s efforts to harness the power of the sun. In 2019, the UK’s largest solar-powered car port was installed at the Bentley site in Crewe. All electricity used to manufacture Bentley cars is solar, or certified green. The solar panels are being installed in collaboration with 3ti – the UK’s leading designer of solar car parks. Read More
Regera Trounces the Rimac Nevera
Koenigsegg reportedly announced on Friday that its seven-year-old hypercar was able to rocket to 249 mph (400 kmph) and then completely halt all of its momentum in just 28.81 seconds during a run at the Örebro Airport, which is located about 50 miles west of Stockholm. That bests the previous record of 29.94 seconds—which, Motor1.com points out was set by Nevera just last month—by more than a full second. During the run, the Regera zoomed from zero to 249 mph in just 20.68 seconds, then decelerated back to zero in an additional 8.13 seconds. Going from zero to 249 mph and back to zero is considered one of the best tests of a vehicle’s acceleration, speed and braking abilities. The Regera has a 1,500 hp hybrid powertrain that features a twin-turbocharged V-8 and three electric motors. The automaker was able to increase its acceleration with one simple upgrade—a set of Michelin’s new Cup 2R tires. Read More

Mercedes-Benz and Superplastic
Superplastic the home of synthetic celebrities Janky & Guggimon – celebrates a special high point of its brand partnership with Mercedes-Benz, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of luxury passenger cars. The two brands have geared up for their next adventure with a limited-edition capsule collection and a VIP event at the Superplastic flagship store in New York City’s SoHo district. The event honors Superdackel, the newest friend of the Superplastic universe, and coincides with “World Dachshund Day.”
The two brands debuted their unexpected partnership in January at CES 2023. The Las Vegas show also saw the premiere of the animated short film “Road Tripz – Starring Janky, Guggimon & Superdackel”, merging the physical world of Mercedes-Benz with the digital universe of Superplastic. The short features a fast-paced joyride through NYC, with the typical Janky & Guggimon hijinks and a cosmic space whale. It’s created an unforgettable experience for fans, new and old. Mixed in Dolby Atmos, the animation has also been integrated into the MBUX Superscreen, the heart of the interior in the freshly reinterpreted Mercedes-Benz E-Class, which had its world premiere in April. Unique Rocks Electric: “Design Hack”; “Next level urban mobility. An electric vehicle with wow factor”; that is also what the jury of the #OpelDesignHack thought a few months ago and chose Lukas Wenzhöfer’s extraordinary concept as the winner of the challenge. In the next step, Opel took the claim of the challenge – “You design it, we build it” – literally and turned the design into reality. Opel kept its word and built the Rocks e-XTREME as a one-off. Rebecca Reinermann, Vice President Marketing Opel/Vauxhall: “With the #OpelDesignHack we have taken a new path of interaction and communication. Opel has opened the industry’s usually closed doors and – approachably and transparently – allowed the Opel community to take part in the build of a concept car. The result is the Rocks e-XTREME; a unique, very cool version of our Rocks Electric, originating from a design challenge and closely accompanied by ‘Making-of’-insights for all. A very successful cooperation.” The production version of the Opel Rocks Electric already represents innovative mobility in its unconventional design, but above all, the Rocks Electric offers locally emissions-free driving fun for two from the age of 151. Rolls-Royce Motor Cars is extending its longstanding environmental partnership with the Goodwood Estate, with projects designed to benefit wildlife, biodiversity and the local community. The Estate, home to the Dukes of Richmond since 1697, extends to 12,000 acres. With over 4,900 acres of forestry and one of the largest lowland organic farms in the UK, it operates traditional land management practices that support diverse habitats for local wildlife. Rolls-Royce has worked closely with the Estate since it was chosen as the location for the marque’s global headquarters and Centre of Luxury Manufacturing Excellence in 2001. The Rolls-Royce site currently occupies some 42 acres in the south of the Estate, with the company recently announcing proposals to expand on neighbouring land to the east. Built with sustainability in mind from the beginning, the Home of Rolls-Royce is itself a pioneering champion of wildlife and biodiversity conservation, through projects including its recently rejuvenated Wildlife Garden, which forms part of the proposed Strategic Wildlife Corridor, and the celebrated Rolls-Royce Apiary with its colony of 250,000 European honeybees. Since the partnership began, more than 20,000 trees have been planted along the South Downs National Park boundary, benefiting both wildlife and the local community. A variety of mainly native broadleaf species were planted, along with some more unusual species, including disease-resistant elms, planted from cuttings collected on the Estate. In order to minimise waste, no single-use plastic tree guards were used in the planting scheme. Read More
