Total Grid Orchestration Alliance Launches First Whitepaper in Conjunction With Its Second Annual Summit

The alliance adds several new members, collectively serving nearly 6M customers across North America

OVERLAND PARK, Kan.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–After its public launch in last September, the Total Grid Orchestration (TGO) Alliance — a collaboration of utilities and technology companies — has launched its first whitepaper, in conjunction with its second annual summit of 40 industry professionals. The Alliance has also welcomed several new members, including Gridient, Survalent, Synergy North and Unitil, among others.

The summit — which took place in late February at Black & Veatch’s World Headquarters in Overland Park, Kansas — centered on discussion around pressing industry updates and their impacts on grid orchestration and TGO Alliance objectives, including impacts of artificial intelligence, load growth, and a shifting energy transition landscape.

The summit is a critical event for the TGO Alliance, where members are given the opportunity to discuss the challenges the industry is facing and put their minds together to collaborate on ideas and solutions to advance grid orchestration,” said Guillaume Paradis, chief operating officer, distribution and generation, Hydro Ottawa Holding Inc. and co-chair of the TGO Alliance. “The progress this group has made since its inception has been notable and further cements my conviction that we can spur progress towards reliable and resilient solutions for customers across North America.”

The Alliance has also released a position paper outlining the challenges facing the industry and opportunities to advance Total Grid Orchestration capabilities. The report, Advancing Total Grid Orchestration for a Resilient Energy Future, highlights the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) in the energy industry, along with the TGO Alliance’s work towards affordability, safety and security risk reduction, resiliency, and reliability.

The paper positions the Alliance’s motivations to drive a comprehensive framework for optimizing energy generation, storage, and distribution in real-time by addressing Total Grid Orchestration capabilities.

Establishing the TGO Alliance’s role in the industry through this paper solidifies the objectives this team is working towards. Every company involved understands the importance of what this alliance is doing,” said Joe Zhou, vice president and senior managing director for Black & Veatch, and co-chair of the TGO Alliance. “Between the utilities and the technology companies, the TGO Alliance is tasked with progressing toward a more sustainable and resilient energy future, while addressing the challenges in aging infrastructure, rapid supply and demand shift, and complex technology transformations.”

TGO Alliance’s collective members serve nearly 6M customers across North America, with utility and vendor coverage across five separate regions. In addition to utilities, the Alliance has six participating technology members.
