U.S. renewable energy consumption accounted for 11% of total primary energy consumption.

EIA released its primary report on recent and historical energy statistics, the Monthly Energy Review (MER). Preliminary estimates for February 2021 indicate:


Biomass accounted for 38% of U.S. renewable energy consumption, wind energy for 27%, hydroelectric power for 22%, solar energy for 10%, and geothermal energy for 2%.


Renewable energy consumption accounted for 18% of primary energy consumption in the electric power sector, 11% in the industrial sector, 5% in the residential sector and transportation sector each, and 4% in the commercial sector.
