US State-level of biodiesel consumption through 2019

State Energy Data System (SEDS) estimates of biodiesel consumption are available through 2019 at SEDS Updates. Data highlights for 2019 include:

U.S. biodiesel consumption equaled 231 trillion British thermal units (Btu), a 5% decrease from 2018.


The top biodiesel-consuming states were Texas (38 trillion Btu), California (27 trillion Btu), Illinois (22 trillion Btu), and Minnesota (19 trillion Btu). These states accounted for 46% of total U.S. consumption.


EIA incorporated the latest 2019 estimates and data revisions into the time-series data files in the Data Files section on the SEDS Updates page.
