WiTricity Joins the Wireless Power Consortium

WATERTOWN, Mass.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–WiTricity, the company wirelessly charging the future of mobility, today announced it has joined the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC). The WPC, established in 2008, is the standards development group that supports worldwide compatibility of all wireless chargers and wireless power sources for smartphones and mobile devices, including Qi technology.

As the use and applications of wireless charging for both low and high-power applications continue to advance, WiTricity has joined WPC to support ongoing innovation across devices. Today, there are hundreds of millions of Qi-certified wireless charging devices globally, and the WPC uses a network of independent authorized labs around the globe that test specific properties for safety, interoperability, and usability.

“We’re proud of our pioneering work in the wireless charging industry and are excited to support global adoption of wireless charging across all applications. Given our technology leadership in the wireless charging industry, it was only natural to join the more than 400 companies from around the globe who are a part of the Wireless Power Consortium,” said Alex Gruzen, CEO of WiTricity. “We believe strongly in WPC’s commitment to worldwide compatibility of wireless chargers and wireless power sources for smartphones and mobile devices.”

Earlier this year, WiTricity also joined MPEG LA’s Qi Patent Pool for Standard Essential Patents. MPEG LA is the world’s leading packager and provider of one-stop licenses for standards and other technology platforms.
