World Water Day 2025

Volunteers Invited to Join a Global Wave of Action to Expand Clean Water Access

WASHINGTON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#LetsSolveWater–With 2.2 billion people lacking safe water, communities, businesses, and NGOs are taking bold action this World Water Day to accelerate solutions. From March 17-22, thousands of volunteers worldwide will mobilize to improve water security—through cleanups, education programs, and projects expanding access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH).

“Around the world, volunteers are driving meaningful progress toward providing clean water and sanitation for communities everywhere,” said Austin Alexander, Vice President of Sustainability and Social Impact at Xylem, a leading global water technology company. “The Wave of Action is an opportunity to scale our impact on urgent water challenges and help communities become water-secure. We’ve seen what’s possible when people come together to take real action.”

For World Water Day 2025, Xylem and its partners welcome participants to get involved in making communities around the world more water-secure. Whether leading a cleanup, joining an educational event, or supporting WASH initiatives, volunteers will help build a more water-secure world.

A Wave of Action webinar on Thursday, Feb. 20, will feature global partners such as Mercy Corps, Engineers Without Borders USA, and Young Leaders from Manchester City’s Water Champions Project. Register for the webinar here.

Anyone can get involved by leading or joining a local volunteer effort. Free playbooks offer step-by-step guidance to help participants organize activities and track their impact. Visit Global Watermark Wave of Action to download playbooks, log your participation, and help activate a donation from Xylem to our nonprofit partners.

Since 2019, Xylem’s corporate social responsibility program, Watermark, has delivered WASH solutions to more than 16 million people, provided water education to over 12 million people, and responded to 154 water-related disasters.

Last year, alone, volunteers organized by Xylem:

  • Provided emergency clean water to 54,000 people in Brazil displaced by catastrophic floods, thanks to collaborations with Planet Water Foundation.
  • Assembled 2,000 water filters, supplying 20,000 people in crisis zones, including Ukraine, with safe drinking water.
  • Funded WASH education programs for children affected by the Morocco earthquake.
  • Mobilized more than 3,000 participants to support schools facing water contamination; and raised $200,000 for water infrastructure projects.

In all, Xylem employees and partners dedicated more than 220,000 volunteer hours in 2024 through 1,380 nonprofit partnerships in 55 countries.
