Daily Energy/Automotive News Headlines Wed May 08, 2024

London ,08 May 2024, (Oilandgaspress): — European natural gas prices saw a fair amount of volatility in April. TTF front-month futures traded from a little over EUR25/MWh at the start of April to almost EUR34/MWh mid-month, only to fall back below EUR30/MWh by the end of the month. However, prices yet again rallied in early May. Reduced Norwegian gas flows to Europe, and a late cold spell across large parts of the continent increased heating demand over the second half of April.

Gas storage had been flat in Europe for several weeks at 62% full (although that’s increased to 64% more recently). As a result, storage has gone from seasonal record highs at the start of April to being more aligned with levels seen in 2020 at the end of April. While the pace of inventory builds has been below normal for the second half of April, we think Europe will hit 100% full storage ahead of the start of the next heating season. This should keep downward pressure on prices, and we still expect TTF to average EUR25/MWh for the remainder of the injection season. Read More

Marathon Watch and the Jeep® brand proudly announced the launch of the new Jeep x Marathon collection, introducing four feature timepieces that honor each brand’s rich history and honorable service supplying the Allied Forces dating back to 1941.

The collaborative Jeep x Marathon timepieces embody the resilient spirit of both companies and reflect upon their shared military roots and functional designs. The series draws inspiration from two iconic vehicles, the Willys MB — the first automobile used by the U.S. in World War II — and the modern Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. The new collection stands as a testament to an ethos of utilitarian design and pays homage to each brand’s origins.

Further tying the two brands together is the military specification of “General Purpose.” In 1941, American firm Willys-Overland was awarded a contract by the U.S. military to supply four-wheel-drive reconnaissance vehicles for use in the European theater. Some say that soldiers shortened the “General Purpose” designation to “GP,” from which the easily pronounceable word “Jeep” was derived.

As the nationwide supply and distribution of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, continue to improve, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has once again called on motorists to shun panic buying of the product. In filling stations monitored across several states, including Lagos and the FCT, the queues have since thinned out, a development that will keep improving daily in other states.

The Company wishes to state that at the moment, it has over 1.5 billion litres stock of PMS, which is equivalent to over 30 days sufficiency.

The NNPC Ltd is also collaborating with relevant downstream agencies, such as the Nigeran Midstream & Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), labour unions in the sector and security operatives to address hoarding and other unwholesome practices.. Read More

MIT has written a new chapter in something that most people probably thought they knew completely: evaporation.

The scientists say the discovery could explain “mysterious measurements” in the literature of clouds which may increase the precision of climate modeling, while also aiding in industrial applications. In this study, the discovery that evaporation can occur just with light and without heat was so unexpected and surprising that it was subjected to 14 different tests and measurements to try and disprove what the scientists observed. . Lithium-pellets

China issued draft rules on Wednesday to regulate its lithium battery market, after rapid expansion in the sector hit industry profits and sparked concerns about overcapacity in international market.

The proposals, issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, are intended to safeguard the healthy development of the lithium battery sector, the ministry said.

The rules would guide lithium battery firms to reduce manufacturing projects that ‘purely’ expand production capacity.

They would also require projects built on farmland and ecological zones to be shut down or put under strict controls and gradually removed.

Rapid expansion of production capacity along the lithium battery supply chain has led to a plunge in prices for products including battery and raw materials, hitting companies’ profits in the world’s biggest market. . Read More

Nikola Corporation (NKLA), EMBR Motors, Inc., Cole Cannon and David “Dave” Sparks are pleased to announce that they have amicably resolved the claims and disputes between them in the lawsuit pending in the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona, styled Nikola Corp. v. EMBR Motors, Inc. et al., No. 2:24-cv-00690-DWL. The lawsuit’s claims against EMBR Motors, Inc. and Messrs. Cannon and Sparks — which claims they deny — are being dismissed with prejudice and without any finding of liability or fault against them.

After reviewing the plans of Nikola’s current management and Board of Directors, Cole Cannon, David “Dave” Sparks, Paul Southam and Hans Peterson, four of the five individuals who had previously been nominated by M&M Residual, LLC to run as director nominees, decided to stand down and no longer seek election to the Board of Directors at Nikola’s 2024 Annual Meeting. M&M Residual, the nominating stockholder of the insurgent slate, withdrew its nomination of these individuals and has withdrawn its slate in its entirety. Cannon, Sparks, Southam and Peterson now support Nikola’s current Board of Directors and their direction for the Company. Furthermore, EMBR is not engaged in any business with Milton or M&M Residual.

A spokesperson for Nikola commented: “We appreciate the chance to work with the four former candidates and get their input. We always value creative ideas and are happy to speak to shareholders who care about the Company and its future. We wish EMBR and their owners the best, especially with respect to our shared goals of an electrified vehicle future.” Read More

Zepp.solutions, a leader in the European hydrogen fuel cell industry, has secured a €3 million investment. This funding comes from the Rotterdam Energy Transition Fund and a reputable private investor deeply embedded in the Rotterdam tech scene. The investment will support zepp in expanding its operational capabilities in response to rising market demands. This is the first external capital injection for zepp.solutions, which has grown into a multi-million company on a bootstrapped basis since its foundation in 2017. This expansion is a strategic move to meet the rising market demand for zepp.solutions fuel cell systems as the European hydrogen sector is moving towards implementation on a larger scale.

“Receiving this first investment is a major milestone for our team” said Jonas Brendelberger, co-founder of zepp.solutions. “It’s a strong signal of trust in what we are building here and a perfect fit, bringing on board partners who will further strengthen our roots in the Rotterdam and Delft tech sector.”

Erik van der Zant, Head of Investments at InnovationQuarter and interim fund manager of the Energy Transition Fund: ”Zepp’s ambition is a great match with the mission of the Energy Transition Fund, which is to reduce CO2-impact in the Rotterdam area by supporting promising climate tech companies. InnovationQuarter looks forward to working together with zepp on their growth.”

Alderman Chantal Zeegers of Rotterdam commented on the investment: “The Rotterdam area is responsible for a fifth of all CO2 emissions in the Netherlands. We need to get these emissions down to zero by 2050. Tech-intensive companies like zepp.solutions are a big part of the solution and help build a viable hydrogen ecosystem. Rotterdam is happy to participate through our Energy Transition Fund.”

Enabling zero emissions
Zepp’s hydrogen fuel cell systems contain all the hard- and software required to turn hydrogen gas into usable electricity at high efficiency and unparalleled power density. These systems are specifically designed for medium- to heavy-duty applications and enable manufacturers of trucks or machines and shipyards to transition towards zero-emission technology. The large scope of integration minimizes the required integration

Recent examples of applications with zepp’s technology are the Ab Initio inland barge by Concordia DAMEN, the Rotterdam-based hydrogen water taxi and several Liebherr excavators. Another major success story is the integration of a zepp system into a yard tractor by Terberg Benschop, this vehicle has been operating on hydrogen since October 2020. Upcoming deliveries include two fuel cell powered hydrogen-electric 44t on-road trucks (Europa), as well as a mobile power genset to be used at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport.

Last year, zepp.solutions secured a €2 million grant from the European Just Transition Fund to support the establishment of their new assembly plant in the greater Rotterdam area, which, once completed, will have an annual capacity of up to 1000 units and will create up to 100 new jobs.

Result of collaboration
The successful fundraising is the result of a long and intensive collaboration between zepp.solutions and InnovationQuarter, manager of the Rotterdam Energy Transition Fund. Earlier, InnovationQuarter supported zepp.solutions in the development of the world’s first hydrogen-powered water taxi in Rotterdam. . Read more

BW Energy

BW Energy is pleased to announce that the DHBSM-2P pilot well confirms that the Hibiscus South deposit extends into the northern part of the field with good reservoir quality, increasing reserve estimates. The Company plans to complete the well as a production well later in 2024.
The DHBSM-2P pilot was drilled from the MaBoMo production platform to a total depth of 5,130 metres. The target area is located approximately 3.2 kilometres west-northwest of the MaBoMo and was drilled by the Borr Norve jack-up rig. Evaluation of logging data, sample examination and formation pressure measurements confirm approximately 25 metres of pay in an overall hydrocarbon column of 35 metres in the Gamba formation.
The well data provides additional confirmation that the Hibiscus South structure is a separate accumulation with a deeper oil-water contact than the nearby Hibiscus Field. This will enable the Company to book additional reserves not currently included in its annual statement of reserves and provide the opportunity to drill one or more additional production wells from the MaBoMo facility.
“We continue to increase the production and reserve base through low-cost and low-risk development activity in line with BW Energy’s strategy,” said Carl K. Arnet CEO of BW Energy. “The Hibiscus South pilot well is another confirmation of the significant potential of the Dussafu licence which holds multiple additional prospects.”
Preliminary evaluation indicates gross recoverable reserves of 5 to 6 million barrels of oil and approximately 14 million barrels of oil in place. Read More
