In 2023, Petrobras collected a total of R$240.2 billion in its own taxes, withheld taxes and government participation in Brazil. These resources are fundamental for financing public policies, positively impacting society as a whole. The energy company is the largest contributing company in the country, playing an important role in the Brazilian economy.

Of the total paid by Petrobras to public coffers in 2023, R$61.4 billion corresponds to government participation (mostly royalties and special participation); R$ 87.4 billion, to federal collections; R$ 90.2 billion, state; and R$1.2 billion, municipal. The values of royalty and special participation payments are directly related to the prices of oil and natural gas on the international market, quoted in dollars.

The payments made by Petrobras cover taxes specific to its operations, and taxes withheld from third parties, since the company has a legal duty to collect taxes throughout the chain, as a tax liability or substitute. The technique of tax substitution is widely disseminated in the National Tax System and seeks to promote a concentration of collection in a few economic agents to facilitate the collection and inspection of taxes. The information is contained in the 2023 Fiscal Report, recently released by Petrobras. Read More

Petrobras acquired international certificates certifying that 100% of the electrical energy used in its industrial and administrative operations in Brazil last year was generated from renewable sources. The I-REC (Renewable Energy Certificate) document guarantees that the electrical energy acquired by the company from external suppliers originated solely from hydroelectric, wind or solar sources. This means neutralizing so-called “scope 2” emissions, originating from emissions associated with energy consumption from an external supplier. The acquisition of certificates is an initiative incorporated by the company last year, as part of its decarbonization trajectory.

Proof of consumption is issued by energy generating companies and requested by consumers interested in ensuring the renewable origin of the energy used. In the case of Petrobras, AES Brasil, Cemig and Eletrobras, through its subsidiary Furnas, provided the I-REC certificates. In addition to third-party electrical energy, Petrobras also uses electrical energy generated at its own facilities, such as platforms and refineries. In this case, direct emissions of greenhouse gases (GHG), resulting from the company’s own operations, Read full article

The Norwegian Offshore Directorate has granted Aker BP ASA drilling permit for well 24/6-5 in production licence 203, cf. Section 13 of the Resource Management Regulations. Read full article

Seabed minerals represent a new opportunity for Norway, and a chance for us to be a pioneer nation – much like we have been within the oil and gas industry, both as regards stewardship of the resources and development of technology.

“Norway is a maritime and coastal nation that administers fantastic natural resources. We have a long tradition of managing the marine environment and its resources in the best interests of the broader society. Norway finds itself in a fortunate position. These rich resources make a significant contribution to the welfare state we live in,” says Kjersti Dahle, Director, Technology, analysis and coexistence in the Norwegian Offshore Directorate.

The evolution of Norwegian oil and gas activities has taken place in stages. In the early years, there was strong opposition against the activity in the north. The industry gradually moved northward, step by step, based on knowledge and experience acquired through activity in the North Sea.

This same framework will be relevant for seabed minerals. This is a new industry for us, and it will be developed in stages, based on knowledge. Norway is in the initial phase, and no extraction licences have been awarded yet. Mapping and surveying to obtain knowledge are the only current activities, and the Ministry of Energy and the Norwegian Offshore Directorate have been assigned key roles in this work.

The areas being mapped for potential deposits are located on the seabed far out in the ocean between Norway and Greenland. The conditions we encounter here bear little resemblance to the Pacific and its lovely coral forests. Fauna (animal life) is more sparse at these depths – often 3000-4000 metres below sea level.. Renault Group and the CEA are continuing to innovate together. After the bi-directional high-efficiency charger for electric vehicles announced for 2023, it is now the turn of on-board comfort to combine the technical expertise and creativity of the two partners.

After 2 years of research and testing, resulting in the filing of around ten patents, Renault Group and the CEA have developed a complex mesh structure. Using a single material, and in a single 3D printing additive manufacturing stage, the structure produces components with adaptive mechanical behaviour and enhanced performance.

More powerful, lighter, and customisable, the components created with this innovation could replace others that are usually made up of a combination of several materials, such as seat seats and backrests, armrests, the centre console, etc.

A unique lattice structure
The innovation lies in the use of ground-breaking digital methods and tools to design a strategically organised structure. Each of the strands making up the mesh of this lattice structure can be parameterised three-dimensionally, to form multi-layer networks of cells in which each stratum has a unique function and characteristics.

Although more complex in their design, the resulting monolithic and monomaterial parts are simpler to produce, in a single 3D printing operation and without any assembly, minimising the carbon footprint and generating no scrap. Made from TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane), these innovative structures are recyclable. Research is continuing to assess the compatibility of other materials, particularly bio-sourced materials. Moody’s analysis of the European gas situation
• Europe gas storage levels reached a historical high at the end of the heating season
• Europe is well positioned to refill gas storage in the coming year because stock levels remain high. In our base case scenario, we assume EU gas supply this year will remain unchanged from 2023, while European gas demand will rise by around 1%, based on an annual GDP growth forecast of 0.8%. Russian pipeline gas supply this year remains close to 2023 levels. We assume there will be an increase in global LNG production over the next 12 months based on IEA projections
• LNG imports increased to 42% of total European gas imports, the highest level on record
• European LNG imports have remained steady in 2024 despite ongoing geopolitical tensions
• Gas price volatility remains high
• European gas prices have fallen further, yet remain above historical average and US levels
• Energy demand was below 2022 levels in most months
• Industrial production for energy-intensive sectors is still weak, while overall industrial output is resilient
• Despite a surge in total gas imports, China’s reliance on LNG is still lower than before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in early 2022
• China’s LNG demand is expected to rise by around 10% in 2024, similar to the increase in 2023 Read More

The all-new Mercedes-Benz G-Class continues the success story of the model series that was established in 1979. The off-road icon continues to rely on tried-and-tested ladder-frame construction, three mechanical differential locks and LOW RANGE off-road reduction as well as a rigid rear axle and independent front suspension.

The redesigned off-road control unit, the new OFFROAD COCKPIT and the “transparent bonnet” enable a digital off-road experience.

Thanks to electrification, the new models offer improved responsiveness off-road and greater comfort on paved roads. The mild hybrids with an integrated starter-generator (ISG) and a 48-volt on-board electrical system also impress with increased performance and reduced fuel consumption.

With the MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) infotainment system and 31.2-centimetre (12.3-inch) driver and media displays with touch control, the new G-Class is more connected than ever.

A host of advanced safety and assistance systems support drivers.

The MANUFAKTUR range for extensive customisation of both exterior and interior has been expanded once again.

Subtly modified exterior with new radiator grille featuring four instead of the previous three horizontal louvres and redesigned bumpers both front and rear.

New A-pillar cladding, a spoiler lip on the roof edge and new insulation materials contribute to improved aerodynamics and increased acoustic comfort. Read full article

The all-new Mercedes G-Class benefits from around 45 years of experience and expertise in the off-road segment. The off-road vehicle icon continues to rely on proven ladder-frame construction, three mechanical differential locks and the combination of double wishbone independent front wheel suspension and a rigid rear axle. High ground clearance and long-travel suspension form the basis for the off-road characteristics. The following values speak for themselves:

Up to 100% gradeability on suitable surfaces
Ground clearance between the axles of at least 241 mm
Maximum fording depth of 70 cm for water and mud
Stable driving on sideward slopes of up to 35°
Approach and departure angles of 31° at the front and 30° at the rear (without trailer hitch)
Breakover angle of 26°
The suspension on the all-new G-Class includes adaptive adjustable damping as standard, which was only available as an option on the previous models. This provides even more control off-road. The dampers compensate for uneven ground even better than passive dampers. With roll and pitch stabilisation, the system continuously regulates the damper characteristics depending on the driving situation and automatically reduces body movements. The components of the adaptive adjustable dampers are designed to withstand extreme conditions such as surging water, driving through mud, flying rocks and dirt.

The tried-and-tested electromechanical rack-and-pinion steering system comes as standard. It consumes less energy than a hydraulically assisted system. Depending on the selected driving programme, it provides a comfortable or sporty steering feel on the road. Off-road, it provides precise feedback with plenty steering assistance. An electric parking brake is fitted as standard. The front brake discs are 354 millimetres in diameter and 32 millimetres thick. At the rear, the diameter is 345 millimetres and the thickness is 22 millimetres. Read More

An unmistakable, angular shape is the hallmark of the Mercedes G-Class And its iconic design remains largely unchanged even during the latest developments. Classic details continue to be characteristic features. These include the distinctive door handles and the characteristic door-closing sound, robust exterior protective trim, the exposed spare wheel on the rear door and protruding indicator lights. The new radiator grille has four horizontal louvres instead of the previous three. In addition, there are redesigned front and rear bumpers with the front ones featuring a new squircle look. The reversing camera has a new position in the centre of the bumper above the license plate holder. A wiper fluid nozzle is fitted to the side of the reversing camera in case it gets dirty. This deploys when the driver activates the rear window washer system.

The conventionally powered models also incorporate some elements that were developed for the first all-electric version of the off-road legend. Specifically, new A-pillar cladding, a spoiler lip on the roof edge and new insulation materials contribute to improved aerodynamics and increased acoustic comfort. The new models come as standard with aerodynamically optimised 45.7-centimetre (18-inch) alloy wheels in a five-twin-spoke design and LED high-performance headlights. The paint colour sodalite blue metallic is now available. There is also a choice of new wheel designs in sizes from 45.7 to 50.8 centimetres (18 to 20 inches).

Customers can emphasise the off-road character of their all-new G-Class with the PROFESSIONAL Line Exterior. The package includes stone-guard grilles for the headlights, mud flaps and 45.7-centimetre (18-inch) all-terrain tyres. The EXCLUSIVE Line Exterior, on the other hand, emphasises the exclusive character of the vehicle with a radiator grille in silver chrome, MULTIBEAM LED headlights, a spare-wheel ring in stainless steel and side running boards. The AMG Line gives the all-new G-Class a decidedly sporty touch. Here, the dynamic appearance is characterised by wheel-arch extensions, 50.8-centimetre (20-inch) AMG alloy wheels and a multifunction sports steering wheel in nappa leather. The Night Package, which includes sporty, expressive design elements in black, is also available. Read More
