(Oilandgaspress) Trump has sided with Iranian protesters and pressured Iranian officials, saying Monday he would impose a 25% tariff on “any” country that does business with Iran” and writing on Truth Social that the U.S. “stands ready to help.”
The US is withdrawing military personnel from its Al-Udeid air base in Qatar on Wednesday, according to the US media outlet CBS News. This move could mean a military strike against Iran by the US Army anytime from now.
The US president reiterated his demand that Washington must take control of the Danish territory. He said the mineral-rich island is vital to US security to prevent Russia or China occupying it. He says all options are on the table for securing the territory. “It is vital for the Golden Dome that we are building,” he said in a social media post Greenland would choose to remain Danish over a US takeover, its leader reportedly said Tuesday, ahead of White House talks on the future of the island
US stocks slumped in early trading as the US Supreme Court was expected to issue a ruling on the legality of Donald Trump’s global tariffs. Also it should be noted that economic and political uncertainties which helped inflate prices for precious metals and oil are affecting the markets.

Saipem announces the restart of operations of the jack-up Perro Negro 7 in Saudi Arabia beginning January 2026. The contract for Perro Negro 7 was awarded to Saipem in 2011 and extended in June 2023 for 10 years. The contract was temporarily suspended for a period of 12 months in 2024. The suspension period will be recovered at the end of the contract, extending its duration until 2034.
Perro Negro 7 is a state-of-the-art jack-up rig, designed to operate in waters up to 375 feet deep and drill wells up to 9,100 meters. The asset is equipped with advanced systems to ensure safety, efficiency, and compliance with the more demanding environmental standards.

EnerMech has been awarded a subsea pre-commissioning services contract by Saipem for the Whiptail development offshore Guyana, expanding its footprint in one of the world’s most active deepwater provinces. Escalating economic confrontation between major powers is now seen as biggest threat to global stability for the year, the World Economic Forum (WEF) said on Wednesday in its Global Risks Report 2026.,
The Report finds geoeconomic confrontation emerges as the top risk for the year, followed by interstate conflict, extreme weather, societal polarization and misinformation and disinformation.
The outlook from leaders and experts shows deep concern. Half of those surveyed anticipate a turbulent or stormy world over the next two years, up 14 percentage points from last year. Related Report
ExxonMobil and Shell have decided not to proceed with a planned sale of their joint assets in the southern UK North Sea to Viaro Energy. The deal had been subjected to a lengthy review by the UK’s regulator, the North Sea Transition Authority (NSTA).
Publicly available sources confirm that: Shell plc and ExxonMobil cancelled the planned sale of Southern North Sea gas assets to Viaro Energy, originally announced in July 2024, after completion requirements were not met.
The proposed transaction covered interests in 11 gas fields and the onshore Bacton Terminal.
The cancellation coincides with ongoing High Court proceedings and legal scrutiny involving Viaro Energy’s leadership, including allegations reported in the business press relating to financing arrangements for prior acquisitions. Those allegations are disputed.. Related News
