15 Dec Energy, Oil & Gas Stories
(Oilandgaspress) –––President and Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, reportedly said that the four refineries owned by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation NNPC Limited would not attract buyers even if they were put up for sale, citing regulatory failures and a poor investment climate.

Dangote attributed the crisis in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector to regulatory mismanagement during the previous administration. “During the last administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, there was a big mistake that was made by putting a trader as a regulator. A trader can never be a regulator, and I think that was a mismatch,” Dangote said during a briefing on Sunday in Lagos. “The crisis that we’re facing is actually due to this, and what is actually paining me is that the country is paying a bigger price,” he said.

The first arbitration decision, linked to the Karachaganak oil and condensate project, could be issued within weeks. Kazakhstan is pursuing multiple legal cases against major energy companies, with total claims exceeding $160 billion. Related News

US Pushes for Delay to EU Methane Reporting Rules
The United States is urging the European Union to exempt it from data-reporting obligations under the EU Methane Regulation until 2035, according to a document seen by Reuters. The regulation, in force since August 2024, requires importers from 2027 to prove oil, gas, and coal supplies meet EU-equivalent methane monitoring and reporting standards. Washington argues the rules could threaten Europe’s energy security and has lobbied for amendments or exemptions. Related News
