(Oilandgaspress) U.S. Rig Count is up 1 from last week to 544 with oil rigs up 1 to 411, gas rigs unchanged at 122 and miscellaneous rigs unchanged at 11.
Canada Rig Count is up 5 from last week to 231 with oil rigs up 8 to 158, gas rigs down 3 to 73 and miscellaneous unchanged at 0. International Rig Count is down 8 from last month to 1,065 with land rigs down 2 to 845, offshore down 6 to 220.
The Worldwide Rig Count for December was 1,783, down 30 from the 1,812 counted in November 2025, and down 82, from the 1,865 counted in December 2024.

Two Just Stop Oil supporters were found guilty of public nuisance at Amersham Crown Court in UK yesterday, after peacefully climbing gantries on the M25 in 2022, to demand an end to new fossil fuel projects.
Daniel Mifsud and another supporter took action on the M25 on 10th November 2022. They were among scores of Just Stop Oil supporters, who climbed on gantries that week in order to sound the alarm about the government’s plan to licence over 100 new oil and gas projects against all expert advice.
After a 5 day trial before Mr Recorder Nigel Sangster, the pair were found guilty of intentionally or recklessly causing a public nuisance. Sentencing will be on 13th May 2026. The Judge warned the defendants to expect a custodial sentence. Read More
South Korean refiners plan to collectively supply about 400 million barrels of clean oil products in 2026, ensuring roughly steady deliveries year over year to key customers across Asia, Oceania and North America, despite weaker refining margins and a low oil price environment early in the year. Asian oil products’ crack spreads and domestic refining margins have been pulling back since November 2025 amid high US refinery utilization rates, while low outright clean product benchmark prices are hurting export values, according to the state-run Korea National Oil Corp.’s data analysis and a Trade Ministry industry report seen by Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, over Jan. 19-23. he 2026 supply target is slightly lower than 2025 exports of 412 million barrels, but above South Korea’s average shipment of about 385 million barrels/year since 2020, the KNOC data showed. A cold front is set to bring frigid temperatures across the U.S., the National Weather Service said, with temperatures expected to hit sub-zero lows and spread from the Northern Plains to the Northeast by Sunday and reach the Gulf Coast by early next week.”With the extreme cold in the North and the storm, half of all Americans are under some form of weather advisories,” said Brian Hurley, a meteorologist with the NWS’ Weather Prediction Center.
