17 Dec Eni and International Labour Organization (ILO) expand partnership
(Oilandgaspress) Eni and the International Labour Organization (ILO) are extending there successful joint project to improve occupational safety and health (OSH), and access to social health protection for workers in the agri-business sector to the Republic of Congo. The expansion builds on positive updates from Kenya and Côte d’Ivoire, where the initiative is ongoing, and reflects the continued momentum of this collaboration.

In the Republic of Congo, the partnership will focus on strengthening OSH systems and expanding access to social protection, particularly in health, for workers in the country’s agri-business supply chains. The project is expected to help empower employers, workers and stakeholders to improve OSH practices, strengthen health promotion and protection at the workplace and sector levels, and increase social protection coverage, enrolling workers in existing schemes. These joint efforts complement national strategies and contribute to promoting safety at work and inclusive development across the value chain.
Eni and ILO decided to scale up and extend the project to the Republic of Congo following the review of progress at the Global Steering Committee meeting on 12 May 2025. The two partners welcomed the positive results achieved so far and highlighted the partnership’s role in improving the well-being of workers.
This new collaboration reaffirms the commitment of Eni and ILO in contributing to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, notably SDG 1.3 on universal social protection, SDG 3 on health, well-being, and SDG 8 on decent work. It also supports the implementation of the ILO Global Strategy on Occupational Safety and Health through the Safety+Health for All Programme and the ILO Social Protection Floors Recommendation, 2012 (No. 202), and national efforts to ensure safe, healthy and protected working environments for all workers. The collaboration builds on a shared approach based on partnership, capacity-building and the promotion of human rights across the value chain.
