17 Dec Hydrogen in aviation
(Oilandgaspress) Rolls-Royce, easyJet, Heathrow and UCL’s Air Transportation Systems Lab have published a report showing hydrogen-powered aircraft could significantly cut aviation emissions while supporting future growth in the UK and Europe. The study finds that combining hydrogen with Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) could accelerate progress toward net zero, especially if hydrogen is included in EU SAF mandates. It also concludes that deploying hydrogen infrastructure at around 20 major airports, including Heathrow, could deliver over 80% of the potential emissions benefits, making early adoption both practical and cost-effective.
