Latest Energy / Automotive News : U.S. Rig Count is down 7 from last week to 748

London, 09 May, 2023, (Oilandgaspress) : A study published in Nature Energy on Monday has revealed that the U.S. Oil Patch is home to tens of thousands of inactive offshore oil and gas wells that remain unplugged, posing the risk of possible leaks into the ocean. The study estimates that whereas plugging and abandoning these wells could minimize their environmental risk, the exercise would cost the industry a hefty $30 billion. There are more inactive, non-producing wells in the Gulf of Mexico coastal waters in Louisiana, Texas and Alabama that have not been plugged and abandoned than currently active wells in this region. Liban Cables, a Nexans company, has inaugurated the extension of its 600kW peak solar power system at its Nahr Ibrahim industrial facility, leading to a total output power to 1.2 MW at peak with a first of its kind 500kW containerized battery solution.

This project will allow Liban Cables to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 1,500 tons per year, which is equivalent to the weight of 750 cars, by replacing two of its six electric generators with photovoltaic panels. The 3,020 photovoltaic panels installed at Liban Cables and connected to the plant with Nexans solutions will generate over 1,800 MWh per year. This renewable energy will cover over 18% to 20% of the electricity needed by the plant to produce a wide range of building, industry and infrastructure cables. This is the equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 434 Lebanese homes for 25 years. The official unveiling took place under the patronage and in the presence of H.E Dr. Walid Fayad, Minister of Energy and Water and H.E Mr. George Bouchikian, Minister of Industry. Maserati MSG Racing in Monaco

Maserati MSG Racing faced a challenging afternoon on home turf, with the team falling short of encouraging early potential at the 2023 Monaco E-Prix.

The Principality’s only racing team returned the podium in Berlin two weeks earlier and showed clear pace throughout the Monaco weekend after setting the fastest time in FP2. Drivers Edoardo Mortara and Maximilian Günther both advanced to Formula E’s duel stages from Group B, and fought gallantly in the head-to-heads. Although Edo lost out in the Quarter-Finals, Max advanced to the penultimate stage but was beaten by Jake Hughes, with the duo starting the race from fourth and seventh on the grid. After adopting an aggressive energy saving strategy at the start, both Edo and Max lost ground in the opening phase of the race but rallied their efforts after the opening third. Running in-formation, the pair were locked in the battle for a place inside the top five – a position which Max held after overtaking Dan Ticktum and Jake Hughes on laps 13 and 14. Both drivers activated Attack Mode on lap 17 and set out to recover after losing track position, although a stack up ahead, and evasive manoeuvre from Max left Edo with front wing damage. On lap 22, Max came to blows with Ticktum when trying to overtake the NIO 333 driver who, with front wing damage and reduced steering, pushed the German into the wall and out of the race. This left Edo as our remaining challenger but with damaged machinery, the Swiss-Italian’s best efforts were compounded. He took the chequered flag in 12th to narrowly miss out on points. Formula E’s ninth season will continue on 3-4 June with a double-header race in Jakarta, Indonesia Read More
