02 Apr Octopus pioneers 50% off kerbside charging for drivers who lease their EVs
(Oilandgaspress) – Octopus Energy is making it easier and cheaper for more people to switch to electric, thanks to a new first-of-its-kind offer that unlocks 50% cheaper kerbside charging for drivers without a driveway.
Through Octopus Electric Vehicles (OEV), the UK’s largest EV-only leasing company, new customers can now charge on-street from as little as 22.5p per kWh (7p a mile), making the switch to electric cheaper and more accessible than ever before.
While a third of motorists feel that home charging is the final ‘nudge’* they need to go electric, the reality of EV driving has already shifted gears. There are now nearly double the amount of EV chargers in the UK than petrol pumps**, meaning that for those without a drive, charging on the go is now more accessible than filling up ever was.
The savings are also significant. A full charge for a typical MG4 electric car would cost around £16 at the discounted rate, about 7p per mile. That is only around 5p per mile more than smart charging at home and half the cost of running a petrol-guzzling Volkswagen Golf at around 17p per mile and £75 a tank.
Initially launching at 20,000 chargepoints from on-street charging specialists Ubitricity and Connected Kerb, Octopus plans to roll out the offering to more locations and brands across the UK.
OEV drivers will be able to scoop up the savings by powering up through Octopus Electroverse, Europe’s largest public charging network.
