TotalEnergies restoring its strategic storage site in France

In February 2022, the French Government announced its desire to relaunch a nuclear development program in France as part of the energy transition, which notably provides for the construction of new EPR 2 type reactors. In accordance with the State’s desire to build these new reactors on existing nuclear sites, EDF proposed the Gravelines site to the public authorities, who accepted this proposal.

The land in question, adjoining the EDF site in Gravelines, is partly occupied by TotalEnergies and attached to its Mardyck depot. It is currently used to store 600,000 m3 of strategic diesel stocks.

TotalEnergies is supporting the State and EDF in this project, which will bring jobs and a future to Dunkirk, and to achieve the national carbon neutrality targets for 2050. Thus, TotalEnergies will return the land it occupies to Gravelines to enable the future installation of EDF’s EPR2 reactors.

In order to adapt to the drop in activity linked to this restitution, TotalEnergies will launch a local consultation with the staff representative bodies in order to draw the consequences for the activities of the TotalEnergies platform in Dunkirk and to support, on the voluntary basis, transfers to EDF.

Concerning the subcontracting company Netman which currently operates the Gravelines site, EDF in connection with TotalEnergies will make its best efforts to offer the employees concerned and volunteers gateways to the future EPR2 site or to the Nuclear Production Center of Electricité de Gravelines (CNPE) currently in operation.
